Frustrated...
2005-03-11 02:23 pmI wanted to get to work using my linen thread and wax right away - my fingers are ITCHING to do it, and I though:
"Oh, I know, I'll do some drawn thread hemstitch to this odl napkin I have here that never got finished"
And I go to wax the thread - well, actually just cut off the length I had already waxed last night because I really wanted to do something with it but couldn't think of what was small enough to go quickly - pick out a needle and find the napkin. Then I sit here looking at the drawn threads at my needle and linen thread and I go:
"Right, so...."
My problem here is I can't remember how to bloody well -do- the drawn thread hemstitch! I used it on the neckline to my blackworked smock, but really, those kinds of stitches are way too small and integrated to be able to take out the garment and have a look. I need instructional images with brightly coloured thread showing me step-by-step how to do it! Or someone to show me, but there is nobody here but me, so I went surfing the net.
Surfing surfing surfing.. I find lots of places that -sell- drawn thread needlework, but nowhere that really shows how drawn thread hemstitch is done. I found a very cool drawn thread lesson at the Heritage Shoppe, but it's not the right kind. It's much more complicated than what I need it for.
I tried doing it anyway, but I think I did it wrong so I stopped after one or two stitches. Waxed linen thread tends to stick to itself, doesn't it.
Anyway, the gist of this rambling post is: can somebody out there post me a link to clear instructional picture of drawn thread hemstich, please?
