I've been casting a beady eye on my use of tags. I like tags. Tags are pretty. Tags are useful. Tags make order in the inherently chaotic experience of LJ.

Only I sometimes haven't thought through my tags very much. For example, right now my most common tag is mundania which over the course of my entire LJ has seen 206 uses out of 925 posts total. Now, for an LJ where I keep non-SCA subjects to a bare minimum this doesn't inspire confidence.

Reasons for this oddity? Well, I carefully mark any post that is not about SCA subjects with mundania, and I do not deviate from this usage. There is only the one tag. All the rest of my posts are usually about sewing garb, or scribal things, but those posts I mark with their individual project names more often than anything.

The next three tags are: garb, pictures and sewing. The second is self-evident, but garb and sewing stand out to me as being nearly the same thing. Not all my sewing is garb, but they are very closely related. So, it appears I vary in my usage of those two tags to describe the same thing. In all fairness, this should be the top tag instead of mundania.

There are some other issues with my tags that annoy me too. More tags are good, means I can get more specificity when I use them, but too many tags annoy me, and I feel the urge to cull among my list of tags. Too much fluff. But it might be useful fluff. But it might be useless fluff.

Oh, it's all too difficult. I'm caught in a dilemma.
