So, I went ahead and marked out on shell and lining where the pocket gets to go. Very clever of me, yes it was. Then I went ahead and stitched together the side seams of the lining of my skirt. The first seam was easy, just sew it all shut and be done.

The second was where I wanted the pocket to go. Now I started with the pocket itself and stitched it in carefully at the right distance from the edge such that the folded back bits would correspond to the seam and I wouldn't have to do anything wierd to it after I closed the side seam. I finished the rest of the side seam while watching some TV.

I went ahead and ironed my seams open, splaying the seam allowances to either side - I'm not sure if I need to do much more to the raw edges seeing as how I will bagline the skirt and they'll end up between the shell and lining of the skirt. Carefully folding the finished lining together I then sat down to feel good about myself. This was the point at which I realized that the pocket is oriented on the wrong side of the lining. Meaning the side that will be between shell and lining. On the same side as the seam allowances. I don't think it'll look at all nice to have a pocket between the layers of the skirt.

Now I don't know what to do. Can I just turn the pocket inside out, or do I have to rip it out and do it right? I was quite lazy on the pocket, just two layers backstich all around (leaving an opening with a 1.5 cm turnback) and then I whipped the quite small seam allowance together before pressing and starching the hell out of the finished pocket.

If you go back and turn under the raw edges of the pocket seam (either felling the seam or simply roll-hemming the edges, although I'd recommend felling for extra strength) so that you don't have raw edges on the inside of your pocket, I'd say you can just invert the pocket.

I'm with you here--I hate it when I do things so carefully that I screw them up!
