While watching shows my fingers have been busy and much got done on my English fitted gown.

The second sleeve was set in and the stuffed roll stitched into place after I came home on Sunday. Monday evening I finished the sleeves at the wrist by turning the shell and flat lining in towards each other and inserting a strip of folded silk for picadills around the opening. I left about two inches of either sleeve open so I can get my hands through, and will probably add a hook and eye closure for them.

Last night I started on blindstitching the linen lining into the bodice and that task was finished tonight. I have not done the inner lining on the sleeves as yet, and I'm now questioning if I should at all. Maybe I'll just add a lining for the upper part of the sleeve to close off access to the pleats and stuffed roll. I certainly don't need another layer at the bottom of the sleeves, unless I line them in something slippery. I would prefer silk for this gown, which is not budgeted for, so that won't happen.

And just now when I decided that enough is enough, I have four pairs of hooks and eyes at the top of the bodice (size: largeish) and one at the waist (size: pretty small). So I tried it on and it feels nice. I think the spacing is good, and the picadils will certainly do their job of smushing any gap (which is minimal) and making it disappear.

Why different sized hooks and eyes? Well, I had the four pairs loose from some other project - the ropa I think - and one packet of unopened same. The unopened packed contained hooks and eyes of a much smaller size. I'm sure they're sturdy enough, but if I had spotted that I would have put the large ones at the bottom of the bodice not at the top. And now, I don't want to rip up my stitches done so carefully in silk buttonhole floss.

Still no pictures, because it looks stupid with only half the hooks and eyes in, and I look dreadful tonight. Plus, I don't want to lace myself into a kirtle.
