Scribing today was done in stops and starts. I was feeling grumpy for no real reason, other than overindulging in chocolate and snack-foods the day before but not today, and I kept getting interrupted.

In any case, I did mostly penwork today. Connecting the dots around the outside, and then doing flourishes around the capital letters inside the scroll text. I did the text with capital letters alternately painted in red and blue. And around these letters the original manuscript had penwork in the opposite colour. So, that's what I did, or attempted to do. I'm not sure if this helped or detracted from the finished product. I still have a little bit of it left to do, plus a shade of light green to add as random dots.

Must also remember to fill in the background in my historiated initial.

Yes, I know it's pretty much empty words when I write about a scribal projects without showing you pictures of exactly what I mean, but, that's the way it's got to be with assignments. Keeping the secret is sort of a requirement.

And speaking of requirements, I've gone above and beyond that in terms of documenting this piece for the recipient. I've filled a large postcard with the details about the inspiration and my equipment etc. I will still have to sign the back of the scroll once I'm finished, but a separate piece of paper for all the details is a good thing I think. I'll adopt it for all future assignments I think.

I usually sign my work, printing my name and email address on the back, but also by "hiding" my ligatured initials (LT) somewhere in the artwork. The ones I've done so far have all been very subtle - if you aren't specifically looking for it, and know what it looks like, you'll likely not see it - but I know it's there, which is the important bit.

And now, to bed with me. Tomorrow: mittens and a fur cape, just the items you need with summer coming around the corner.
