Somewhat lessened of late...
2005-04-25 11:52 pmMy progress somewhat halted after I took that photo and uploaded it.
I started stitching on the trim, but think it looks wierd at the collar - and also realized I still hadn't got a lacing strip in. I really ought to wait until I have that in place to stitch on the trim for optimal positioning. I agm really strongly considering going for the store-bought stuff though - it will be that much easier. And much faster.
Granted it might turn out to be only a temporary solution, but, it would be wearable anyway. I really do need it wearable for the weekend. So, need to put that in place, buy it tomorrow of course, then proably rip out the bit I had stitched down and re-pin the entire arrangement because I'm really not happy with it now. I know where I went wrong, and I know how to fix it, and it's easy to change too. Might mean I get a little braid left over, which would be overage and wasted, but, I don't care.
At least now I know about how much it uses up: four metres for twice down the front, once around the armholes and twice around the collar. That way I have an estimate for the doublet project that is just waiting for me ... sometime ... in the future.
Anyway, I stitched up the remaining seam on the GFD chemise (while watching a backlog of TV shows I've missed), meaning the last sleeve was attached andthe seam felled, and that is now folded away ready for wear. No more linen to sew now (and I really loved working with waxed linen thread) only the gown itself left. *sigh* I don't want to hem it. Hemming is boring. Boring, boring and boring. I might do it temporarily just to get it done fast-like. Fold in any overage but not cut it away until I get back from the event. I dunno though.
Must also decide what to pack _exactly_ so I can see if I can fit it in the bag I wanted to use, or if I should go with two or three smaller ones. There are pros and cons but what I really like about my big suitcase is that it's ONE item and easily transportable on the wheels. And I have managed to lift the entire HUGE thing through the lenght of an overnight train all on my own once without dying. (I did break out in a sweat though, but it was in the middle of winter, I had hurried, I was carrying the damn heavy bag and I was wearing lots and lots of clothes, mittens, cap and my big warm wooly scarf). I didn't even have to stop and rest that often. Anyway, half an hour should be plenty of time for the changeover in Stockholm from one train to the other - I hope. I am also hoping for a lift from home to the station - and a lift from the station to the site, but that latter is more tentative.
So who knows where my topic is a quote from?
