My mending projects
2005-08-05 07:41 pmI made a list some time ago with things I need to correct on old garments to make them wearable again. Well, not actually wearable, but prettier. In any case... I pulled out all the garments I want to bring with me to Visby and laid them out on my bed. Then I looked through them for what needed fixing and so far I have re-finished the hem of my plum GFD where the lining was bagging to show along one stretch of hem. It looks much better now, and I also ironed along the entire hem which I hadn't done previously (remember I finished with the hem at the Doublewars event so no iron at hand).
I've also folded, ironed and pinned the hem of my blue cotehardie which I had most sloppily hemmed up before. I don't recall now if I wanted to turn up the hem of the chemise I did for the GFD gowns or not, but I think I did. May have to add that to my small pile then.
I've also pulled out the red forepart skirt which I used for the tudor court gown and am planning on bringing it with me to wear underneath the doublet bodice kirtle if I can manage to split the front opening on it. I tried it on and the waist should be sufficiently high that it doesn't droop down unattractively. This is also somewhat dependent on my shirt. I haven't actually finished it yet, have I. I could of course just wear my partlet underneath the kirtle, over the smock, but I'm sceptical about the look of that.
I'll probably end up bringing too much stuff as usual, but right now the pile on my bed doesn't look all that big. Of course it doesn't yet include bedding nor feast gear.
Well, now my small break is over I shall get back to my needle and thread and fix up the hem of the blue cotehardie.

Date: 2005-08-05 08:16 pm (UTC)I haven't even made proper lists of all the stuff I want to bring with me, and I'm starting to get really tired now. I don't even know the plan for tomorrow either. Don't know when I'll be picked up etc. Well, it'll sort itself out... I hope.
