Bah, humbug!
2005-10-07 04:25 pmOldergoddess has let her LJ go; so sad.
I've not, in fact, finished the ropa. Hemming has got to be the most boring thing in the world - ever. The length of the ropa is excessive, like two handspans too long. There's definite pooling going on at floor-level and having to cut that off evenly requires wardrobe and knowledgeable assistance.
I have the wardrobe, but I had no knowledgeable assistance lately. Filippa was too busy to help me this week, which was a shame. I tried pinning up the lining just now, but I've no patience for it. No patience!
Hmm, I wonder what else I need to bring. I've got two trunks with my garb, and air mattress - I'm hoping to lend a pump to inflate it at the event. Otherwise... otherwise I'm going to get cranky. I suppose I could bring with me the self-inflatable one as a backup. There ought to be plenty of room after all. Two trunks, a few loose bedding items and my backpack. And a pillow.
Food items; I've got two pears. I haven't got a suitable water-bottle though. I've got two 2 litre coke bottles, but that gets heavy. I dunno. Might pick something up on the way - or once there. I usually bring raisins and almonds to snack on whilie waiting for feast as well, but
I just hope it'll be fun, lots of fun.

Date: 2005-10-07 02:35 pm (UTC)I'd be *lost* without mine. If you can't afford a new one...maybe you could get an adjustable used one? They are just so helpful.
There is also the "duck tape dummy" version, that I have heard are easy to make, and work well for some. Have you ever heard of it?
For hems...I actually place the dressed form on top of my sewing table. Then I can comfortably sit in my chair and still see exactly what is going on with the hem. It's brilliant!

Date: 2005-10-07 03:07 pm (UTC)Might be worth doing a duct tape dummy. The same problem with a bought and home-made one is that I don't really have much room for it. But it'd be nice to have one anyway to do draping on.
I tried making a gathered partlet pattern a few nights ago, but I'm not convinced it worked. I tried to look at your pattern and match it as best I could, but it still looked wrong - by the time I hit that stage it was too late so I didn't break out my cotton sheeting to make a mock-up. That would also be easier to do with a dummy.

Date: 2005-10-08 09:03 pm (UTC)I first gathered the straight edge of the fabric for the toile, then fit it to the neckband, and THEN cut away what I didn't need. That way, when I unpicked the whole thing I had the right amount of extra in the neck edge. This made it very, very simple!
Hope that may help a bit. Cheers.
