I've been trying to get around to liking Babylon 5. Let me tell you, the jokes are lame, the love-stories suck (except for possibly Marcus (actually nearly everything about Marcus was good) and they KILLED HIM! Bastards.) The acting skills - phah! Worst kind of soap opera where nobody believes in their lines.

The thing between Sheridan and Delenn? There's not even an ounce of heat between them. I don't believe they're species-crossing soul-mates.

Londo, sometimes his performance is actually good - often they make him laughable. G'Kar can likewise sometimes do good things - but they insist on making him laughable twice as much as Londo.

The new captain after Sheridan becomes President, Loughlin? - what possessed them to cast a bimbo for that role?? Ivanova, now I like that char, I believed her most of the time but she was supposed to scare her co-workers; what?

Argh. It's a soap opera in space. The thing that always annoys me the most is aliens who look pretty much human. Two arms, two legs, head, fingers, toes, nose, etc. Yawn - why bother?

Lyta, the renegate telepath, modified by the Vorlons, she makes stupid faces when she's supposed to do "telepath" things. That's just stupid.

Elder races, immortal beings - bah. Bah! BAH!

So, why do I keep on watching it? Well, once you're watching a show the storylines sort of catch you. That's the general idea of storylines - to draw you in and keep you watching. Of course, the storylines are pretty much obvious on B5. But then, I'm on the last season of the series, may as well watch it to the end, right?

It's not as if it completely sucks, but it's definately Not a Good Show.

Yes, that was a pointless whine, but you don't have to read it, I just had to get it out there.

I think you're being a touch harsh- at least in places. I agree about Delenn and Sheridan- they are one of the most irritating couples in fiction, but I think the point of making Londo (in particular) a loveable buffoon type character is to increase the 'burn' when he does evil things. It's a form of 'comic relief' if you like, and altering the tension will heighten the fall when it happens.

I was being harsh, yes, but it's my whine, I can do it if I want to! ;)

I'm still watching it, yanno, so really I've no right to complain: if it's all that bad I can just stop watching.

Also true. So I'll shut up.

My good, DEAR, friend. :)

No need to shut up, if I wanted no feed-back at all on this I wouldn't have posted at all. Feel free to share your opinion!

One more thing that annoys me about sci-fi shows and movies is the voice-activated computers. The commands given have no specificity, they are words that can't be separated out from regular speech by anything. It just wouldn't work. At least nothing we can do today would accomplish it. They're using statements and sophistry talking to the computer sometimes, that sort of specificity requires quite a lot of brain-power to decipher.

On the other hand, aren't they mostly using either single words, emphasised more than normal
(_Lights_), or they are prefaced with 'Computer, .......' So, presumably that works out how it does it ;)

Sometimes they use the single-word imperatives, like *lights*. Other times they do preface it with 'computer' but at other times they do not, and start interacting with the computer in the middle of talking to other people in the room.

Of course, I'm nitpicking now. I would like a computer system that works fast enough, and intelligently enough to respond in such depth to spoken commands, so it is a good technology dream to latch on to.

Sort it out for me, will you? ;)

Do you guys have a date for Doublewars yet, incidentally? So we can book the ferry

Heh, I'll work on that :D

Double wars is always in the week of Ascension. Looks like next year it makes the event start Friday May 19 and run through Sunday May 28. That's just me looking through my calendar, there is no official event ad out yet as far as I know.
