Today is friday, one week from my essay deadline. I must have around twenty pages by next friday, on Virginia Woolf and The Waves. I know what I need to write, I have the outline, I have the arguments, but I find it strangely difficult to concentrate on actually writing it down. If I were sitting at home I would get nothing at all done. I would open my word document and I'd leave it permanently in the background while surfing pretty pictures. I wouldn't even do anything else useful like sew.
Fortunately, I am not sitting at home, I am at the Language campus computer lab, with my peer who is Irish.

I actually was of some use yesterday: I wrote a big batch of christmas cards to send out. Stamped envelopes and wrote addresses. I even scrounged up three addresses which I either didn't have in my book or had old ones of. I'm going to have to tick them off now so I know who I sent cards to. I marked them in my addy-book with a lil tree drawn in for those I meant to send cards to in any case. I am quite rotten at keeping in touch though. I like getting mail and letters and I think it can be fun to write them as well. But then when you have an exchange they tend to get longer and longer, and then it takes more and more time to do at which point I feel like if I write them any shorter I'm cheating my pen-pal out of something and it then becomes a chore to write and I put it off. It's happened to me again and again.

Seventeen cards in my lil baggie to drop off at a mailbox today. Another handful to give to people in person because I'll see them here in town.
