Yup, they're up. And I'm stick of looking at the photos already *sigh* I don't know why so many of them turned out to be in such poor quality, but I can not make myself go back to the original and try again on all of those.

Anyway, they are online, but mostly lacking captions - I'll be working on that, but if you spot a face you recognize and there is no mention in the caption, please leave a comment and help me out. Comments make looking at event photos that much more fun.

Standard disclaimer applies: if you're online and don't want to be, drop me a note and I'll remove the photo. Want originals? drop me a note. The photos are OK for SCA use as far as I am concerned as the photographer, but it is considered good form to ask the people pictured for permission before publishing as well.

And if anyone has photos of me from Visby, send them my way! I did surprisingly well with handing out my camera, so I get to feature in a few photos this time, but still.

p.s. I know I've been posting like fifteen times a day since I got back. I'll try to restrain myself from now on. Honest.

Post away, I looked at all of your pictures twice, everyone is so beautiful :)
and you had fire shows, oh how I love fire dancers. I am glad you are well and have slowed down enough to be bored. Welcome home and hugs!

We did have a fire show. Though that one wasn't very inspired. A young troupe who hadn't really gotten their coreography down yet. The entire Island had been too try for too long to allow open flames, so I suspect they didn't get to practice like they wanted to.

Still, fireshows are always fun. *hugs* back at you!

Wonderful pictures!! I see nothing wrong with the quality, either. I love seeing how you do things there, and compare with how we do things here. So much is exactly the same. But, I wish all our people tried as hard as your people at their costuming. Also, we see a lot more variety in cultures and time periods, I think. Probably because of the larger number of the populace.

Everyone at your event looks so young! Where are the old people? At any rate...don't hold back on posting! And thanks for sharing the beautiful photos!! Good pictures of you and Arnaud, and funny faces on Aleydis!! Heeheeheeheehee... *hugs too*

We are lacking in the old people here, I know it. Though the society isn't all that old in Nordmark, the older shires are around 13 years I think.

Yes, definitely a lot more variety over there - we have more vikings in general, and basically nobody is middle eastern or asian. I saw one belly dancer in camp this year - first time ever.

Authenticity is much more important in general here. I am now ashamed to wear the gowns I had made in An Tir to events here because of it. That's a shame because I see that as meaning the kit standard is higher than it could be, but on the other hand I like seeing nice period garb :) I'm as good a garb-snark as anyone (but I try to do it in my head only).

Thanks for the nice comments :) Arnaud always photographs well, just as Filippa doesn't photograph that well. She's a beautiful, tiny woman in real life, but somehow every photo I try to take of her looks wierd. It's unfair I tell you.

Ah - the belly dancer is Gwen, who usually wears a pretty nice 15th c outfit. I think she wanted to travel light this year. She's actually a *professional* belly dancer, no less, and a good one.

Amazing that the pics of that old cotehardie came out so well - I've been using it for 5 years, and it's getting time to retire it. Just as soon as the new blue one gets finished. (I'm not stalling, it's only been in the works for 2 years...)

To be honest, it's not really that well made; it fits well mostly due to accident, and the fabric being *really* stiff vadmal. I think the melton wool that Handelsgillet has would work pretty well too in case you're thinking of something for Atli. Just make sure that it's snug in the waist and roomy in the chest region, or he'll have problems with overheating (I do).

1. You guys only have one listfield? We usually have between 3 and 8 depending on the event.

2. I'm not surprised Ivan won a tourney. He was King of Caid 5 times and he gave me my AoA.

3. I noticed on Arnaud's cote that the front buttons were different than the sleeve buttons. Was this typical? I've always made all the buttons the same.

4. I love the camp photos, especially the lack of modern tents.

1. This year's field was pretty small. I know at least some of the fighters went to Pennsic, including the King of Drachenwald.

3. Well, as mentioned this is a pretty old (and thus crappy) garb. Store-bought buttons and such, and I doubt I have enough of that kind to replace the sleeve buttons even if I'd think it was worth it. As for what's "typical" ... well, your guess is as good as mine, since we don't have much to go on.

4. We used to have a "modern tent section", but it was eliminated since there was no practical area where they might be raised out of sight. Unfortunately, the same held true for the facility area, which was blatantly visible all over camp.

1. Well, for most of Nordic 1000 it was divided into two, but generally, yes, we can get by with only one. The camp this year was a total of 350-400 people (I think). Not everyone fights, and not everyone who fights does heavy.

2. He won every tourney he entered, just like last year. (Nordic 1000, Two-hand weapon tourney and the Visby Tourney)

3. I don't know if it's typical, but (and I know how this sounds) I seem to remember seeing somewhere that sleeve buttons could differ from front buttons.

4. The camp is lovely, and you will not see any mundane tents because they are not allowed. It's enforced periodicity that rules the day for the Visby tent camp. Awesome for atmosphere, less fun for those who have no period tentage. But the hosting Barony have two very large viking a-frames that they let out for crash space, so that's where I slept, among some 15-20 others.
