liadethornegge... because I just got an email from a person possibly interested in Aros!
I got to feel all chatelainy giving her directions, information and a welcome. Warm fuzzies. Now let's hope we put on our best face at next Tuesday meeting :/
ETA: A timely responce means this new person might even come for sewing circle tomorrow. How cool is that? I will try to remember to restrain myself. Do Not Overload The Newbie With Things They Do Not Need To Know ... Yet!
Seriously, that's one of the biggest things, to not smother new people with too much information all at once. They really don't need to know that there are 19 kingdoms with however many principalities, so-and-so many shires nor do they need to know the names and dates of our biggest events. Nor do they need to know Drachenwald was a part of the East Kingdom before becoming its own, nor that Nordmark was once a Barony.
Nothing you tell them the first few times will be retained anyway, because there's nothing to hang it up on. Usually, the SCA isn't even in the same universe, let alone a wall to hang pictures on.
Good grief - would someone put a sock in me.
