I am a complete embroidery retard.
I have like half a dozen ideas but since I suck at making them materialize they're all locked up in my head! Guh. I should also do something about finishing my kirtle (not embroidery related).
I have the pair of false sleeves with embroidered cuffs that I took off the tudor court gown waiting for ... something. I started futzing with the embroidered cuffs (which I cut off to be separate from the sleeves) to see if I can do smocking on them. Then I scrapped that idea and tried to fiddle with the sleeves to see if I could do smocking on them - no go. I don't think that smocking would be appropriate where I have blackworked the cuffs in any case.
Work continues apace on the scroll as well - I've filled in all areas that were awaiting a colour, and I've started with highlights and outlines. I don't remember anymore if I did the outlines with brush or quill* the first time round, but I think it was with a quill. Not sure, either, if I want to do the outlines for the final time with brush or quill. I'm not sure my hand is steady enough for the brush, but the disadvantage of a quill is that you endanger scraping layers off with too much pressure - at least with a brush I'd only paint over stuff. We shall see. I still have to do the highlights on the vines, and also the tree-dot-thingy (it has a name but it escapes me) in the painted in areas. Plus some penwork.
Also noticed that we forgot to add the titles for the Prince and Princess at the bottom of the text. A little annoyance, but not, on the whole, too bad a mistake. I think I shall attempt to finish the scroll for Civil War so I can bring it with me and have it signed. Hmm, I wonder if Viscount William will be there. I know that Her Excellency Filippa will be.
* By quill I mean a metal nip pen, not an actual bird's quill.
