I found a sweet sweet site of images of extant items, drawings, paintings etc.

On there I found two pics (back view, click 'suivante' for front) of what I can only describe as a ropa. The item number is RMN79033 if the link doesn't work. I did a search with period as the only term (16e siècle) and this ropa was on page 38. Loads of other goodies on the same site as well.

Further thought, the site gives the ropa the title of "robe d'intérieur" which makes me think this was a dressing gown worn as undress. In the extension I start pondering about my black ropa in the same way - putting on chemise, shirt, corset, petticoat and ropa and wander about til lunchtime like that, then change to proper full dress.

Oh, fabulous site! Thanks for sharing!! I went all the way through backwards and forwards. The photos of the ropa are terrific. Did you find the closeup shot of the fabric itself?

Found an interesting portrait of Mary Stuart, I've never seen before, and some wonderful Clouet drawings. Super spiff! Thanks bunches.
