Basically, yesterday I came straight home off the train, emptied my backpack, tore open my luggage for the sewing bits and pieces and stuffed those into my backpack before hopping on another bus over to [livejournal.com profile] helwig's place for the first sewing circle of the year.

I brought with me the English fitted gown and materials and cut out the somewhat more fitted under-sleeves/lining for the sleeves in my cheap blue linen fabric. I was an idiot and cut them such that when I stitched them together they twist all around, but I've no more fabric to use now and I can't be bothered to unpick hand stitching*. After also cutting out a flatlining for the sleeves from the same blue linen I basted the shell wool to flatlining and then stitched up the sleeve seams from head to about elbow length. The rest I left open for now for further fitting on me.

The plan now is a complicated scheme of assembly for the sleeves, little padded rolls and lining of sleeves to go on in some sort of logical progression to create a nicely finished set of slightly pouffed sleeves. I am not at all sure I can achieve it and at the point I was I packed my stuff away to go home and have a nice long look at my inspirational images. I think I might have to steel myself to the fact that I will have to re-do some stitching to get the sleeves to look nice. I also haven't worked out how to assemble them and attach them to the bodice.

It will, at the least, be very interesting to see how it comes out. The new and revised timeline was to try to be finished with this for Nordmark University the last weekend of January, but it's ok if I don't make that deadline too. How can I go to events always in new clothes and expect people to recognize me? It's just mad - people don't see me at events often enough to get tired of any of the dresses I've made so far, and yet I feel some sort of drive to always have a new dress to wear to events. It's mad.

* As an aside, I think my reluctance to unpick hand stitched seams is holding back my overall sewing perfection score, but really, honestly, I can't be bothered. I do try to learn for next time and have so far avoided repeating the bigger faults on subsequent attempts. It'll be Good Enough.
