Intarsia pillow finished.
2007-03-15 09:58 pmI added the grey strips quilt style and then just stitched the intarsia with the back panel right sides together in a combination of running and back stitches. Making sure to leave a gap to insert the pillow which I then closed up as neatly and invisibly as possible. All with white linen thread.
The first picture has my hand in for scale, the second is just for fun. And yes, the panel is a bit wider than it is high, on account of the wool pulling out of shape as I was doing the intarsia and preparations. I didn't measure and cut uniform pieces beforehand, rather I fit it in situ which meant things got a little skewed. In any case, it's not very noticeable and I squared it up as much as I could.
Now I just need to stitch on a little maker's mark somewhere and call it done. Maybe add tassles at the corners but probably not. I can bring it with me to events and it'll decorate my bedroll nicely. It even goes with my spiffy wool blanket woven by my mother.

Date: 2007-03-15 09:09 pm (UTC)Yes, that -was- the reason I hadn't done anything about the intarsia panel as yet. But you see, I wanted to do something tonight and it was laying out there and so I picked it up.
Yes, I did think about outlining it with gilt leather, or a gold embroidery thread, but I completely forgot I'd meant to do that. I don't have any golden leather now, though, and I'm not going to buy the teeny amount I would need just for this little project. And I suspect that if I add gold embroidery thread the pillow will become much less cozy to snuggle up on. But we'll see.
It would add a bit of definition to the outlines.

Date: 2007-03-16 07:13 am (UTC)It is actually kind of dark, yes, but it looks darker in the pictures than it seems in real life.

Date: 2007-03-16 12:34 pm (UTC)Doh! You did say linen. Wow, well, ok so just straight strips of linen stitched down in the same way as the leather?
I certainly -do- have lots of scrap white linen at home. Lots. Coo-eee. I might just have to do that!
