Much Sewing Goodness Happens

liadethorneggeToday, I took everything I ever owned, ever, and went over to Helwig's place for a day of sewing. I arrived and all she could see was my one little red bag in my hand and she inquired "So you did not bring the entire homestead this time?" and I turned my back to her, at which point she laughed, because it was all situated back there in my bag.
Anyway, after that bit of high-jinx, I proceeded to cut and try out the Laton sleeve I drafted the night before (turns out the lower half is exactly like the upper half, except for the sleeve-head bit). I cut it out in the designated lining fabric for my lovely new project (Surprise! It's a Margaret Laton Jacket) and zoomed it together quickly and very temporarily on the machine. The pattern fit like a glove. So I picked it apart and moved the seams out 1 cm on each side.
Then I proceeded to try on my slashed bodice, over my first corset and it fits like a glove. Helwig helped me pin the shoulder straps to their proper places at that point and I proceeded to jump up and down a bit for joy.
Then I pulled out the blue twill that will be the skirt for this slashed bodice. I'll use all 2 metres of it, fold down a reasonably large "hem" at the top to pad my cartridge pleating, and turn all the rest of it up from the hem for added drape. I'll add a linen lining as well.
I had also brought with me the leftovers from my Spanish ropa, and I determined I can get a pair of sleeves out of it, if I piece them. Piecing is period. And disregard any sort of grain on my wool. It barely has any in the first place, so I'm not worried about that.
And then I started on the assembly for the Laton jacket while we watched Smokey and the Bandit followed by The Fast and the Furious.
Oh, it was a good day. Good day indeed. Tomorrow I might do a homepage update, because it is no longer true that I have no active projects. I have them coming out the wazoo!
