On account of me being a scatter-brain this morning I did not, in fact, manage to pack my camera for sewing circle today. I was sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and the Saturday crossword when suddenly it was time to pack my bag and go, and I forgot all about my camera.
Also, I did not get to the stage of trying on my newly finished dress. On account of not actually finishing it.
What I managed to do today was that I changed the back neckline to a slightly lower, slightly more square version, cutting into the shell fabric in the process like a butt-head. This in order to match the painting a little better, and to simultaneously narrow the shoulder strap coming from the back.
I also stitched in the lining on the bodice (white linen), and the last thing I did was to pin the skirt in place all around the waist. I've distributed the fullness equally all around, with a divide and conquer method of (cartridge) pleating. I'll whipstitch that down and finish it by tomorrow - hopefully - so I can try it on and see where the hem falls. I am anticipating having to raise it a little bit, and applying a second strip of velvet right at the bottom of the hem as a sort of guard. It'll be excellent for picking up dirt.
So, there was nothing to take pictures of, other than
helwig's gorgeous creations which were both finished to a wearable state. But the day was gorgeous and I wished I had taken the camera with me anyway.
I pondered my new front closing corset on the bus as well, and I think I've pretty much decided to bloody well do it properly. So I'm expecting to rip out all the boning channels and do them all over on the machine. This time making sure the channels are wide enough to hold my cable ties. Again, what is the point of rushing it? Same story with the Laton inspired jacked I've cut out. If I were using a sewing machine I might finish it in time for Civil War next weekend, but I'm not going to do that, so it won't be finished for the event. And really, that's OK. I'll aim for Nordmark Coronet Tourney as the deadline for my jacket instead - that should be doable.
