Below are two close-us of a detail on the coif I'm re-creating. I've currently not really tried to re-create this particular stitch, and if anyone has any suggestions on how to work it, I would be most appreciative! It's all tangled up and almost looks like it's worked in two directions.
I've sort of skipped doing these bits intentionally so far. And on a couple of places replaced it with my version of long-armed cross stitch, or ösenstitch as the viking version has been called.

Anyway, if anyone can decipher the below, please give me a shout!

Oh yes, I'm more than half way done with the metal thread embroidery on the coif. And if I can keep this up I will be finished by Double Wars, which is in one and a half weeks! I am looking forward to this year's Double Wars immensly. I can hardly wait.

I have no clue. But you know who I would ask? http://pinkleader.livejournal.com/
It reminds me of a stitch she tried to teach me once.

It looks like a version of plaited braid stitch, but with a twist in the middle. I wish I had time to experiment, but don't at the moment. :( I wonder if you know anyone who is taking Tricia Wilson's Goldwork class to see if they are covering it.

No, I don't think I know anyone taking that class.

Thanks for the tip, I now have one stitch diagram which looks like it works for the second photo, though!

I would guess that you're trying to do plaited braid stitch but I don't know how to do it. pink_leader or attack_laurel would know.

Well, definiely a version of it. I have stitch diagrams and workings for several kinds, but nothing so far that produces that look. I have a couple of leads now though - so thanks for the second hint to ask pinkleader :)

It looks like it's a stitch worked around a braid stitch. Leon Conrad has shown us quite a few of these. I could forward him the picture and ask his opinion if you like?

Yes please! Anything helps! And the opinion of an expert would be most appreciated :)
