Calming phonecall - phew
2005-04-18 11:21 amSo my sister-in-law just called to tell me what is up with my brother:
He has broken a collar bone, the right one which is fortunate as he is left-handed, and he has a fracture in the right knee, which they'll just put a cast on and leave to heal. His legs apperently were sliced open a little on the steering column when he flew over the front of the snowmobile so they have put in a few stitches, like three, in each leg. They did that, and x-rayed him in Kiruna but they wanted an expert in Sunderbyn to look at the knee.
Fortunately for us, we have a doctor in the family who works at Sunderby Hospital and her ex-husband was also admitted to the hospital this weekend on account of crashing a snobmobile and breaking three ribs (!) and she was on the rounds, so saw to it they were placed in the same room, next to each other and also told my brother's doctor that it is important to get his mobility back to 100% as he leads a very active life and needs it for work as well. So they will operate on the collar-bone rather than just letting it sit and heal on its own which is the usual procedure.
Fortune in the midst of unfortunate things I suppose. At least my brother has company while in the hospital, and has a doctor interested in his recovery personally to make sure everything goes as well as it can and to check up on him.
He was driven down in an ambulance-taxi and came home at 3 am. Then this morning another ambulance picked him up and drove him to the hospital where all of this happened. My sister-in-law hadn't talked to him more than this morning, but brother is doing quite excellent, except for feeling a bit bruised and tender. He also said he wouldn't be taking any sissy sick-leave, but wants to get right back to work once he is out of the hospital. Sister-in-law sounded a little sceptical about how much he can do, but I suppose doing paper-work, or talking to customers about the cars they sell can be done even when in a cast.
Anyway, I am relieved, yes I am.
