That's what laying down gold leaf is like. First you apply a coat of the adhesive, mine is tinted with red paint, so when it goes down it all looks screaming pink. Then you breathe on it and gently pat down the gold and voila Bling! Bling! Shiny! That's the most satisfying thing really. And with nothing but the text and the gold it looks delightful.

Of course, I have to do another layer of gold. I'm being cheap and using much more of the gold than I should - because I can't recycle it myself as far as I know - and the end result turns out a little motley. When I use the fresh leaf and manage to get a nice application it goes down shiny and smooth to begin with, but then I must use the corners and bits where previously it didn't stick on corners etc. That's when things get the motley appearance.

After the gold is finished though, I can start adding colours, which will have a dimming effect on the gold, it always has. Right now though, nothing but text and gold. I like.

Next I must decide what to include of the droleries. Do I want the silly saint, or should I make room for a coat of arms? Should I take one of the motifs from the other leaves in the same Book of Hours? I saw some nice ones. Of course, these miniatures will really be small - and I've never really done anything like it before. I've done one historiated initial, but it did take some work.

In other concerns, I need to figure out how to make my new cell-phone display the time. I'm certain there's a dead easy way to do it, but I have no clue as I've never had a Nokia before. *searches for manual*
