I know, I know - yet another post
2005-04-24 10:26 pmSo anyway, here I was, feeling nothing, but blah, so I pulled out the doublet bodice kirtle again and had a look. I need wings, so measured about 25 cm should be long enough.. how wide, say an inch at the widest right at the point of the shoulder? OK.
But that out of interlining, mess it up. Make a paper pattern, it works fine, cut it out of interlining again and now we're cooking with fire.
Cut out double layers linen, twice. I used the sewing machine to sew it together - amazingly it had the right tension! - and then turned it inside out with much swearing and muttering and serious considerations about going for flaps instead. I managed to turn them, and have now stitched the opening closed. Now question becomes, do I topstich the layers to keep it from rolling around? Will I do it today? Will I sew the wings onto the bodice?
Must also decide how to deal with the trim aorund the arms so it will look nice. Just end it at the armpit I suppose.
Back into the fray...
ETA:
I did it, topstitched the wings, and whipstitched them to the armscye. I even pressed the seam out and it looks spiffy now. Well, it needs the trim. But I also realized I really need to stitch on the lacing strip before I apply the trim down the front closing - for optimal cover I mean. I can do the bits around the arms and neck no problem.
