Corrupted again!
2005-06-17 07:14 pmToday was the day for the fabric shop excursion. Myself and
helwig took the train to Stockholm where we started off by playing tourists - walked over to the castle and did the Royal Armoury Museum. It was awesome, but slightly frustrating as some of the items I would have wanted a closer look at were half-hidden, or too far away, or turned the wrong way around!
Anyway, I took a few photos from there which I will upload eventually and link to.
After lunch at the Mongolian BBQ place across from the Central station we took the commuter train out to Sundbyberg where the fabric store lives.
It was awesome.
There was so many colours! So many qualities! So many thicknesses! It was awesome, and I splurged. I probably should not have, but damnit, I had a mission to get fabrics for warm outer-wear and I got that and only that. Plus some linen. The cuts I got was one purple pure wool for a 15th C surcote, and one black 80/20 wool/poly plus acetate lining for a 16th C warm ropa of some description. And then there was the linen. I only got the fine white linen to use for a shirt or chemise. I might try checking out Himla, an outlet store, if they have any nice linen in tomorrow. Plus, I need to buy more linen thread to sew with.
I'll need to get a little bit of silk to line the sleeves of the purple surcoat, since I will be doing half-sleeves with tippets where the lining will be very visible. I might get away with getting off-cuts for this bit, and I know just where to look for that (Tyg Centrum). If I do open sleeves for the ropa I might need some silk lining there too, but I'm trying not to get ahead of myself here. I still have a list of alterations I need to accomplish on old garb, plus there's the linen GFD all cut out awaiting my needle and thread, plus the shirt, and the brown doublet...
Yeah, I really didn't need two new projects right at this moment, but those two projects were, are, important to my wardrobe after I sold my cloak. I don't have that to just throw on anymore, so I'd be freezing my ass off at night if I don't make warm outer-wear.
Anyway, it was all
helwig's fault - she was the one that dragged me to the fabric store! Yeah, that's it... Look - wool!
All in all, fabulous day.
