The plan

So, after research on the web and then research over at helwig's place I'm pretty much all decided to make a simple ungathered ropa, after any number of Alcega layouts. I'll bring with me my bodice and my alcega farthingale patterns and use those to lay it all out on the fabric at the next sewing circle (which has been moved to Sunday instead of Saturday).

I will probably make a round sleeve, slit it down the front and add buttons, or frogs, for closure there. Or do hanging sleeves as long as I can make them with the fabric that I have. Round sleeves are warmer though.

I want to decorate it with laid goldwork, but I know that's getting a bit too ambitious. But I want it to run all down the front closing, around the hem, and probably some more design elements at the shoulders, over them, around, however..

I won't make a train, as I want it to be practical. I shall cut it to fall nicely over a farthingale, which means it will be a bit long if worn without one, but I'll take that inconvenience. . . I think. Pondering my garb and how I use it, I might make it a bit shorter, because the garb I would be wearing at camping events after dark are not likely to be the fancy schmansy gowns that require a farthingale. Camping events, when dark, is when the partying is going on, and I want to be comfortable in those situations, and also warm, which is where the ropa comes into the picture. It is _not_ meant to be flashy - well, not planned as the flashy type, but if I can flashify it without making it impractical that's a plus of course :)

I want to make buttons all down the front closing of it with loops on the other side for closure. I am quite sure I will be cursing them by the end if I ever get them done, but that's the price you get to pay for looking good, right? Right...

Before Sunday I need to wash my fabric as well.
