I went to town the other day and got a cut of remnant wool. It's a gorgeous fabric, black/white greyish tartan with an inset of two delicate blue threads in the middle of squares. It's lovely jovely, and the hand is delightful.

I've sketched out a design for a flared, knee-length skirt in this fabric. I've cut it out, zig-zagged all pattern pieces and I've started stitching it up by hand. The machine works for zig-zagging, but I don't trust it joining pieces of fabric together so I'm doing it by hand. It should be interesting to see how it'll turn out. I also took the pattern for the waistline of the trousers I bought a pattern for. I'll see how I can use that to my profit. This skirt will be opened in the back - if I can manage it. But I've got to go out and buy a zipper and a cool button. I didn't think about that when I got the fabric. If I get it anywhere near recognizeable I'll take a picture.

ETA:
I have it stitched up now as far as I can. It's seven pieces in all. Two side-gores on each side, one entire front panel and a split back panel where I'll insert the zipper. I've stitched together the five gores that make up the side and front. The back panels I'm leaving til later so that I can adjust on them the waist. On the other hand, I can do it up and just add a couple of darts over the rump. It still needs a zipper and button to finish the skirt up for wearing, but the backstitching I used have gone pretty damn quick! Zooming up a skirt! I love it.
