So the knitting is done:  it's a bit large, but quite comfortable. I don't know if washing it will have any effect or not. I rather hope not, as that would make the loops much closer and the entire thing less airy.

I'm sure I could have finished things off neater - but I dunno how. There's certainly not enough yarn left to make an attached collar like I pondered, and in any case, it's not really necesary. So here we are:

Also, in the attempt to spare the innocent I've edited out parts of my desk underneath the arm.

Is this your first knitting project??!

It's *really* pretty. I can't seem to get past ugly dishcloths. :P

Well, I did make -one- glove in 8th grade or thereabouts.

Besides, it you look closely at this knitting you'll see lots of mistakes, and in the ribbing at the end of the sleeves I've made mistakes, purled where I should have knitted etc. And of course keeping the proper tension throughout? Not happening here. Thankfully, since most of the pattern is this loose lacey stuff that doesn't show up as much as if I had done fifty-eight rows of stockinette stitch.

And I must say, I don't like how the back of the neck looks, but since I basically never have to look at it - I don't care!

Anyway, thanks!

Really nice. I want to make a shrug too, but haven't really found a pattern I like.

Thank you :) I didn't really find a pattern myself - I just made it up, which you can see by the poor fit of it. It's much too large all over really. But it does the job of keeping my arms warm, so I'm happy. But my searches before starting showed up lots and lots of patterns for shrugs. It's one of the simplest items you can make so there are lots of simple patterns online to choose from.

Also, I had gotten _just_ enough yarn to finish the whole thing, so I didn't have to go out and get any more, nor is there much left over to go to waste which is always gratifying.

Thank you! Whee, I love LJ - one always gets such immediate gratification and shows of appreciation. Good for the ego, I say.

That looks great! Much better than the little dish rag I tried to make when my mom taught me to knit!

Thanks :) It went together rather quickly yes. But I didn't have to cast on that many stitches, and I used fairly large gauge needles, so it should go fast.

In all honesty, I don't know if I will continue with knitting. I just did this one because I have, for quite a long time, been wanting a bed-jacket to replace the one I used to have. (This was also one of the reasons why I looked for second-hand needles to start with).

Granted, I did buy the five double-pointed needles with the idea that at some point I will knit a pair of socks, but I see that as a long way off yet. And I should probably finish my hose first :)
