So my ancient and venerable Aunt called me to ask if I would be interested in going to Tallin. Yes, certainly, that'd be lovely says I. So, she's looking into the tickets, and we'll be going Feb 11th through the 15th. Hee! This would be a fantastic opportunity to shop for sca supplies if I can only find the places people are telling me exist.

If you've got tips, tricks and links - please leave them here!

I bought absolutely wonderful wool knee high stockings intended for estonian folk costumes in a little craft shop just off the Viru street, on the left side if you come from the wall, rather close to the gate. I would actually go back to Tallinn just for those socks. They're very finely knit and are lovely both for 16th century and mundane use.

The restaurant "Olde Hansa" is also worth a visit, they actually make medieval food, not just claim to. Their different beers (herb beer, cinnamon beer etc) are alos worth testing.

Thank you!

Coolness. I think [livejournal.com profile] helwig bought a pair of socks from there too. Might not be the same place, but I definately remember her coming back with knitted socks. I assume Viru street is someplace I can find easily?

My aunt doesn't drink, and I don't particularily like beer :) so we might skip that part, but I'll definately try to convince her to try the Olde Hanse restaurant!

Viru is the main street sort of, it leads from the eastern gate (The big road Narva Mt leads you there) to the main square, Raekoja plats I think it's called.(Olde Hansa is very close to this, in a 15th century warehouse, on Kuninga if I remember it correctly). Along the wall, just by the gate you find stands with various knitted goods in the summer. I doubt they're there in February though.
By the square is the oldest pharmacy still in use, on Apteegi.

There's a fabulous amber jewelry place - I'll dig up the address. I second the recommendation for Olde Hansa. Also all along the wall are little booths of knitwear - some had stockings, some gloves, some jumpers, etc. There's supposed to be a good shoemaker but I don't know where. (I *loved* Tallin!) And the chocolates were very good.
