Anyone remember the test I did of blackwork embroidery on very fine linen?

Well, I found myself daydreaming about taking that linen, drawing up a circle, sketching out a viney-leafy pattern and filling that in with blackwork. You know, the counted kind, with all different kinds of filling patterns.

I know that this is a very bad idea. Eyebleeding and silly. Quite a ... quite a charming idea really. I mean, just think of the pretty caul it would make? So pretty for people to go ooh and aah over. And I'd get to use so many different kinds of blackwork patterns.

You see? Save me from myself!

LOL! I would be no help, I think it's a good idea :-)

Oh poor baby, step away from the pictures...take your hands away from the thread...do not think of the ooohhhs and aaaahhhhs your handiwork will bring; think of all the cramped hands and eyes that hurt....(bet you do it anyway, grin)

And whatever you do, don't make my mistake and discover whitework... blackwork in white only works close up, but has even more of an 'oooh' factor. :)

I too am considering a proper blackwork coif on linen. Maybe we should form a support group!

I clearly have the wrong people reading my friends list - you're no help at all at keeping the fabric voices at bay!

p.s. I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Yes, this is helping. This is the kind of thing I need to hear! Thank you, dear.

*hugs*

Oooh.. whitework. Well, that is... yes. Shiny. I think that might appeal to me even more. I am not all about the bling, as you may or may not know. I definately like the understated.

Having it covered in whitework would not be too noticeable from a distance, but come close enough and shazaam....

Have you got any good links about this to share? :)

Oops! My bad, tempting you like that. The subtlty appeals to me too.

I think there's a whitework coif in the V&A collection. I'll have a hunt and see if I can find more details.
