Remedial Sewing
2006-11-02 07:43 pmToday was the day for remedial sewing. I had been given homework and as reported I did manage to get that done. The green pendelton wool it is.
After a trip to the factory outlet store to pick up some linen (4.3 metres white and 5 metres dark blue to line my new gown with) we headed over to Helwig's place and threw ourselves into a veritable storm of pattern drafting, copying and cutting.
I decided on the layout for my skirt, using the Alcega petticoat, and I used a modified version of my doublet pattern for the bodice. Though they are called 'fitted' gowns, I am actually making it a bit loose around the edges. I want this to be an outer layer to go over kirtles and whatnot, so I will need to fit under it with some layers on. It should be calculated in the ease now.
I cut out my green wool after only a little hesitation. I also decided on Margos "Phoenix sleeves" as being the appropriate look I want. Fairly fitted at the wrist but gathered and puffed up at the shoulder. I intend to insert a little stuffed roll at my shoulders to make sure the sleeves keeps their shape.
Much was pondered and much decided upon.
Remedial sewing continues tomorrow. I shall not forget the camera, and I shall be back with a more complete report.
