Some progress
2006-11-07 05:29 pmWell, I took
marymont's advice and simply turned my pocket inside out. I'm not sure I need to stitch over it again though, I did take some care to make it secure the first time around.
Since I had been careful to stitch it at exactly the right spot the turning was uncomplicated. I also did up the two seams on the shell fabric and for tonight I have the task of attaching shell and lining together and the skirt will be ready for mounting.
Not altogether sure how I want to deal with the front opening on the skirt. If I should let the shell fold in over the lining or if I should just do the baglining thing at the front. I would then have to be careful to roll the shell over to prevent the lining being shown. Topstitching would be essential - but I want to add guards along the front opening too. I'll probably add a strip of wool felt at the waist on the back of the skirt, to help pad the pleating. Before attaching shell and lining I think I'll be much more comfortable finishing off the raw edges in some manner. I know I said I wouldn't have to, but it feels like cheating if I don't do anything.
I haven't done any progress on the bodice as yet, though I will probably add some strengthening there too. The future will tell.
Tonight is Aros Tuesday meeting; last week was cancelled due to school holidays and next week is cancelled for another reason leaving us without a room to hold the meeting in. I find myself unconcerned.
Also, I shall do my best to have Persian Earl Grey tea delivered to Mary to pass on at University. This should bring good cheer along, hopefully.
