gallery :: Experiments with Intarsia:
I decided to play with Intarsia today. Ten minutes to cut out the template, another fifteen to cut out the design. Five minutes each to tack the pieces together and 35 minutes each to stitch the intarsia in place. So about an hour and a half to two hours to make both pieces. I was thinking of covering the join with the fake gold DMC embroidery thread. And make the two pieces up into, err, a pincushion maybe.

Loads of fun, and so easy to do! Everyone will be making their own versions now that Elenore has finished and displayed hers and held her course at the University event.

That makes it less fun to do as an actual project. I could go with unusual colours that nobody else has, but that wouldn't be authentic. Or I could go with unusual patterns that nobody else will use - same problem there. It will be lovely to see them appearing at events, but I don't want to be one of out the eighty-five others who have them.

I got hooked at university.. wish I started with some lovely (näckrosblad) as you did and not the stallions :/ but they turned out better than I though.. thinking about doing an easy type of bag with intarsia.. so that I can carry it around with me :) or give it to someone as a token of my appreciation :)

thought about using some other kind instead of gilded leather as well.. but it would be fun doing it the "correct" way at least once..

Yeah, it would be fun to do it right for at least one project. I may, yet, if Helwig goes ahead with her plan to buy gilded leather and making a blanket, in that case I might be able to beg the few scraps I'd need to add strips to these two halves. I mean, they measure about 12 x 14 cm - it'd be a stupid waste to go buy just that tiny amount of gilded leather.
