Sture Shirt 2 - Embroidery Madness

Here we are, a photo of my insanity. I figured I would skip the part where I carefully measured out the area to be filled with embroidery - seeing as how this will only go on the inside of the collar - and just go crazy, fill the entire piece and anything that is "out of bounds" will just be out of bounds. The excess won't ever show up, but it's a simple pattern so who cares what the linen looks like that you fold in for seam allowances, right? Right.

Only then I started embroidering the piece, perhaps a bit close to the edges, but what the heck. Perhaps a bit small in scale, but at least I went straight in to going over 4 threads, not 2 or any such ridiculously small number.

And the end result is as you see. The bit I've started on is perhaps a third of the length of the collar, and as far as height goes? I do not need my collar to be higher than 3 cm plus a small ruff. The width of my embroidery is 5.5 cm at the top edge of the photo where I went across the entire strip.

But it's a simple geometrical pattern, just a grid with the uppity bits. Perfectly period. Quite simple. Only every crossing has to be stitched through five times and I've yet to figure out the most efficient way to do it. And, yes, it is (mostly) reversible. I only cheated in a couple places.

Had I been sensible I would have drawn my pattern on a much larger scale and used stem stitch.

Heh, thanks. I am myself still a little mixed in my feelings towards this little project.

It will look good once finished, sure, but ... couldn't I have picked a better scale to work with. Or at least not done it as counted work?
