...but my mother reads my blog, and she is a world champion enabler. Seriously. I went sky-diving, at fifteen, on her urging. I went on a week-long last-minute vacation to Turkey at 17, on my own. And now.... now we are making me a medieval pavilion this summer.

Yep.

So, now I have to sort out the canvas, and it is seriously freaking me out because I haven't actually touched it. How do I know it's the right stuff? There's going to be something like 35 metres of it in a giant roll. If I get it wrong then what? Aaaaah! I have it on good authority what kind of canvas to get, but I still like to have it in my hand before committing to such a large purchase, you know? So, I procrastinated with other stuff for an hour and it's now after business hours. I sent them an email asking for fabric samples at least.

Also, minor freak-out on account of lots of things to think about before going up north. And once I make my pavilion, how do I get it places? Where do I store it? Waily, waily, waily!

Enablers - they are everywhere I tell you.

In other news: I'm getting my own pavilion this summer! Squeeee!

Cool, thank you so much! I've pretty much got a design set down, but there are no doubt a million details I've forgotten to think about.

In fact, only now starting to think of the actual construction I come up with any number of questions, such as how to attach ropes to roof, how much rope you'd need, etc.

I belive she's got handouts/instructions for a couple of basic pavillion shapes, so, she should definetly be able to help you. (I've not aquired much of the tentage knowledge myself yet - it's tough to do hands on stuff when you live 600 miles away!)

So, which era of pavillion are you getting?

Well, I'd really like the Terafan style pavilino, like I've talked about before: http://liadethornegge.livejournal.com/tag/pavilion

I even made a paper mock-up!

Lia,

try talking to Katharina von den Linden [Baerenau] if she is still with the SCA. She is Master Terafan's other apprentice and together they created a round pavilion big enough for her and a visitor but small enough to pack into a duffel bag [Kat did not have a car and traveled mostly by train].

Cheers!
