Site update
2004-11-11 05:24 pmI looked at some scans I have and decided that the doublet needs a diary started. So I did. Just the basics up so far, including a picture of the extant doublet I will mostly be basing mine on. It's detailed in Arnold's Patterns of Fashion so people can follow along at home.
I think I will wish for that book for christmas.
Anyway, I have got patterns for the doublet now, I test-fitted a toile last sewing circle, which had been adapted. I also opted for the completely separate collar just as in my inspiration. I think that I need to also make a proper shirt to go with this. Can't wear a square-cut smock to a doublet, it leaves too much of my skin in contact with the garment. Luckily I did copy down the pattern-layout for a Sture-shirt so I have that to go by. I just need the linen and patience.
Also in the plans for the doublet-project is a kirtle. I even have the grey wool I will use for it - unless I steal that wool and make a 14th C surcote for the GFD. I am thinking of getting more grey wool from saxylle though, which is finer than what I have already and might be more suitable for a surcote than a kirtle. I don't know. I'll bring the swatches to sewing circle again and see if the ladies have decided to order with me or not.
