Updated 2009 project list

A couple of posts back you will find my list of finished items of 2009. It was still one item short to be truthful, as I had finished the set with embroidered coif and forehead cloth for Mary as an elevation gift. Obviously I couldn't post about it before that with specifics.

But now I've added it to the list with a couple of photos as well. Go check it out.

Wow, that is lovely. Is that needlelace around the front edge?

Well, it's some sort of hand-made lace. I bought a bunch of small short pieces of lace a year or more ago, and this one just fit along the front edge of the coif. Maybe not needlelace, but possibly bobbinlace.

It finishes it off perfectly! Did you base the embroidery design on something?

Yes, indeed. It is based on a coif in PoF4. I don't have it with me so I can't double-check which one it is. But the "striping" is from the one coif, but instead of vines in between the stripes I added stand-alone motifs, in order to be able to use the pelican. So I picked four twigs, in addition to the pelican and spread them out. All taken from PoF4.

The speckling on every other stripe was in the original consummate V's, but I decided it was eating up too much thread so I never took the return journey to fill them in - but I have seen that same trick used on linen ties, also in PoF4.

Cool, I'll take a look at my copy of POF4--I haven't read it enough to be able to recognize most of the pieces offhand, but I do have it.
