Online classes with SCA Iberia
2020-07-18 10:23 pmI noticed last week an online Colegia of Iberian classes and though, oh cool, but probably not for me.
This morning however, another link was posted and I decided to check out the class roster and found some topics to interest me.
I must say, many props to the organizers of the event that have scheduled classes, that have all started on time and finished on time, with good mic discipline through the day.
The first class I participated in was on Chopines, the tall platform shoes found in Spanish fashion particularly in the 16th and 17th century. It was a well-run class with a video that the fascilitator played. Unfortunately their computer died in the middle of it, but the teacher was there, was able to share her slideshow and continue the talk from where the pre-taped class ended. That was impressive.
It was also interesting to see the collected research on chopines. Unfortunately this class was not recorded as the teacher will have an article published hopefully in the next year.
The second class I listened in to was Introduction to Hispano-Flemish men's clothing which myself and Ed both attended. It was also well organized and with some great pictoral sources and book-recommendations etc.
The third class I signed in to zoom for was Introduction to Pyrography which was a great survey and starter for doing pyrography. He showed the modern tool, and then also period tools and how to set up a brazier. It was very interesting, he ordered sets of three of each tool, because a tool cools down very quickly when retrieved from the brazier, so having two more heating up or keeping warm means you can continue working.
Very cool. If I manage it, there's another class that starts at midnight for me, and there's also one class by Duchess Rowan Peregrine, but that's at unholy o'clock.
The class schedule can be viewed on their website: http://www.fibergeek.com/scaiberia/class-schedule/
