So much energized by getting a page and a half in and my sewing, I realized I really -should- be doing my scroll instead. Said and done, I moved the scribal desk forward and got to sketching on the text. I had ruled out a similar size area on milimetre-paper. I wrote out the full scroll text on that just to make sure I had enough room in my 77 x 110 mm text-area. I did, and I was even able to squeeze in the place and date which I had forgotten on the first pass. Fortunately, my line-spacing on the test piece was off, so I actually had two more lines to use for text than I had originally thought.

So, I got the recipient's name in and the Prince and Princesses names in red ink, with gilded initials. Well, the initials are only blank spaces as yet, with a small pencilled in letter so I'll know what to draw in (Just like they did it back then!)

I've also ruled out the "real" lines, penciled in a line which I have (tried in vain to) followed with my letters. That way when I erase the pencil lines I'll have text floating in between inked lines. w00t. My text is not really very good though :( It's a bit crooked. It's the lack of practice and I think it shows.

Well, we'll see what I think in the morning if I want to re-do it all or what. Of a necessity my font has had to be much scaled down - there's no way I can fit the entire scroll text in the space I have at the original size. I did consider doing a full spread, like a verso and a recto page - but that would mean double the illumination and there's just no chance in hell that would ever get done in time. So I'm streamlining the procedure. Hopefully. And I did manage to get alot done in a short time.

I've also removed the enormous initial - replaced it with a somewhat more modest one. Hope it works.

Oh yes, also did a boo-boo by witing outside my bounds. One of the lines I had drawn was not pencilled in all the way to the top of the writing surface (because it wouldn't need to be there as the initual would cover it up) so I wrote all the way to the outer edge of one of the border design features. *sigh* But it is fairly minor and I can easily just steal a bit from the left margin and work it in.

In May, it will be Anno Societatis 40, or, in roman, AS XL.

Tomorrow I might start on the sketching of borders. Oh, shoot, it's Tuesday tomorrow - two hours cut out of working time.. Hmmm... Go or not, that's the question...

Rambling post - I think that's a clear sign pointing to ----=> BED.
