Whoops

So, while spreading the first of my ropa's side-seams open and stitching that down I thought, wouldn't it look better if I just overstitched along the seam as well? Tried it, and yes, it did look much better.

End result, I have only done the one side seam so far this evening, but it is looking spiff, and I am using some of the silk I got for a ridiculously small sum. I am enjoing my handstitching, but the fabric smells of something. Even after washing it's got a distinct odour. Not horrible, but very noticeable and I'm not sure if that's what has been giving me a headache or if it's the overcast weather and low iron levels.

While sewing I've been pondering how I should handle the lining. I probably want to fold over a bit of shell fabric onto the lining, to hide it from view. But do I want to use longer loops of thread to attach the major seams to each other with like, two inches of lee-way? Can I accomplish that? Would they have done that? I should perhaps not have zoomed through sewing the lining together as one item. I could have just folded over an allowance of the lining and slipstitched it onto my shell fabric... *sighs* Why didn't I think of that sooner? Well, never mind, that would have taken more work wouldn't it? I mean, it's not as if the lining being a bit big will affect the fit. And I did use the wool as pattern pieces ontop of my lining and cut a little ways out from the wool so the lining should be a little bit bigger all around. If the lining were smaller I'd have a proportionally bigger problem. But it isn't, so I don't.

Also realized that I can't say this is all hand-sewn anymore - I did the lining on the machine. But it's acetate and horribly slippy so it doesn't deserve better than the machine to be honest. I shudder to think what it would have been like to do the lining up by hand. Ick. Anyway, everything that's visible will definately be hand made, and, well, everything except the major seams on the lining and the zig-zagging around the edges of the lining will be hand made.

Right, I'm sure that made no sense and was intensely boring for everyone, but I work things out while I type and it feels wrong to type all this up and then just trash it.
