designOK, so I am pretty much decided how I want to use my green brocade. See image. I basically took the two first portraits I posted on Feb 25.

I did a sketch in pencil and then a hatchet job in photoshop with the pic of my fabric that I found. I know this particular idea has been done - alot - but Not, as far as I have seen, over here in Nordmark. The idea would be your Standard Italian Rennaissance dress, as featured on Realm of Venus time after time. Different from the courtesan-look though, by not having the open V ladder-laced down the front. My plan was side-back lacing.

Also, let me add, that I would totally go earlier, like, beginning of the 16th Century, or to the end of the 15th, to get those cool sleeves with openings along the back and ties to keep them on and stuff. There's just the one problem: I really don't like the empire line with the waistseam coming right beneath the bust. Not my favourite style ever.

:) I will. Eventually. I have been pondering and posting links about this project for a long time now, but have had a hard time deciding. Also, I have plenty of active projects already :) Of course, doing the dress as planned in the pic there shouldn't take too long either. I'd just have to make sure I have a suitable lining fabric, and get some silk for the poufy bits in the sleeves. Shouldn't use up that much fabric.

The only real difficulty is drafting the sleeves as I haven't tried anything similar before, but I'm not really anticipating any trouble with that. Simple straight sleeve with the head cut up into strips: what could be more simple? (Consider this a request to any sewing deities I won't have to eat these words).

I also totally think you would look absolutely _fab_ in a dress of this design. But you would have to do some work yourself with someone else to help you a little. Namely make a corset pattern and do a draping of that on yourself (this is where the help is needed). This is not as difficult as it sounds, since we have the fabulous Drea Leed's Elizabethan Costuming Page with detailed instructions for making a corset. Think about it...
